Sometimes it is helpful to focus on one thing at a time and avoid multi-tasking. If an activity is unfamiliar or has multiple steps, give yourself extra time to complete it and try to break it down into individual steps. It may help to follow a list if you are easily distracted and have trouble concentrating. Finally, if you are trying to have a conversation or learn important information, remove distractions (i.e. turn off the radio or television, wait until a quiet time of day or go to a quiet area).

I find reading first thing when I wake in the morning allows me to remember and consentrate for longer periods. I may set my alarm 15 or 20 minutes early so others don’t interupt me.

Since I’ve been diagnosed with MS I have a some cognitive problems. I purchased an Nintendo DS lite specifically to use the software Brain Age and Brain Age 2. Both of these have math problems, memory problems and many more exercises that have different levels of exercises. i.e.  easy, difficult or hard.

Most of the exercises are timed which also helps in completing the problem solving. The software keeps track of your progress through the different levels of exercises.

Since I’ve been using these software my “brain age” as greately improved. The first time I took the brain age testing, my brain age was 72. I’m 56!  Over the last couple of years working with the software I’m proud to say that my latest brain age testing resulted in a better score of 35!

There is even software that helps with vision problems called Flash Focus. I’ve had a remarkable improvement in my vision. There are also several software programs of crosswords and other games that help with cognitivity.

After comparing many sites for best prices, Kmart came out the best for me. There were some better deals on Amazon but most of the software programs that were cheaper were also used.
